Weighing my options at Landmark

As November wears on and the weird Chicago weather gets even weirder, I find myself drawn to the movie theatre. (Oh, who am I kidding? I find myself drawn to the movie theatre all year long.)

This week looks particularly good for Landmark Century Centre Cinema (2828 N. Clark). But a girl only has so much money and spare time. So what do I see?

“The Skin I Live In” is out. No offense Almodovar, but Banderas has never been my cup of tea.

“Martha Marcy May Marlene” is out too. Because I’ve already seen it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great, just not a candidate for repeat viewing. Plus, worst date movie ever.

How about “Like Crazy”? Star-crossed lovers in a long distance relationship? Yeah, I’ll definitely be going at some point. Though for the life of me I can’t figure out how Anton Yelchin and his receding hairline get all the pretty women.

Also right up my alley? Disturbing documentaries. I was intrigued by the trailer for Werner Herzog’s latest, “Into the Abyss”. Conversations with a young death row inmate that lead to an exploration of the whole system: love the concept, and Herzog. I’ll just have to watch “Wet Hot American Summer” when I get home, to unwind.

“Melancholia” might be this week’s winner, though. Lars von Trier. Kirsten Dunst in a wedding dress. Alexander Skarsgaard in a tux. And a whole lot of strange happenings. Why am I not seeing it right now?

Stay tuned for a review!
